While lawn trimmers and edgers may look similar in style, these two machines don't actually have much in common. Not only do they have very different uses, but their price tags are quite dissimilar as well. While trimmers are more affordable, edgers are often more durable, and it can be hard to decide which machine may be the best choice. For tips on choosing the right equipment for your yard, take a look at our article below.

Convenience

When it comes to convenience, it’s hard to beat a lawn trimmer. These machines are lightweight and very easy to use and maintain. While they’re not as durable as edgers, their parts are more affordable and often easier to replace. Unlike an edger, trimmers use a small wire or zip tie to cut through grass and weeds that your mower may not be able to reach. As a result, they’re perfect for small to medium-sized lawns that are littered with various obstacles.

Durability

While trimmers can cut through grass and small weeds with no problems, that’s really all they can do. Edgers, on the other hand, have a multitude of uses outside of just edging your lawn and driveway, including clearing away thick brush or foliage, and even giving hedges a quick trim—although they may not be as precise as a hedge trimmer. Because they use a blade, and other more durable equipment, an edger is likely to last longer than a trimmer and won't need as much general maintenance over the years.
